The next Holms Race will take place on September 14th

The Holms race is the most high profile event in the club calendar with a typical entry of over 50 boats from clubs around the Bristol Channel.

It is held in late August or early September and is a down tide race starting and finishing off Portishead, with a course of NW Elbow to port, Flat Holm to Port, Steep Holm to port, NW Elbow to starboard and finish.

Competitors choose their own start time from 2 hours after high water based on the tidal streams and the wind with the aim of passing between the Holms at slack water.

Latest sailing instruction from the organising club, the Portishead Cruising Club:

The Sailing Instructions have now been published below, please note:

– Start / Finish Line: is between the Portishead Yacht & Sailing Club (PYSC) Clubhouse and a cylindrical orange racing mark (approx. 300 metres North of the PYSC Clubhouse).

– Earliest Start Time: is now 09:00 to allow time for the racing mark to be laid. The NoR has also been updated to reflect this (there are no other changes).

– Bar: the post-race event is once again at the Portishead Youth Club and will start at 17:30 – a two course meal will be available for £7.50
