As the Lydney trip was cancelled for the May Bank Holiday weekend 4th to 6th May we are planning to go to Portishead on Whimbrell, locking out around 10.30 on the Saturday. Weather dependant. Let me know if anyone else is interested - Gary Brooks.
Lydney Trip over the May Bank holiday CANCELLED. It's cheaper to go up in June for the Lydney Yacht Club rally. 7th or 8th back on the 9th.
That said, if anyone wants to take a trip up to Lydney, before then I have put 10 information packs together, and i would be happy to act as pilot as would Eric Witheridge and a few others from LYC.
OR Join New Dawn for a touch and go visit at Easter or single night stop over.
Good Friday, up to portishead for the night.
Saturday morning, tide up to Lydney calling in at St. Pier (between the bridges), then back down on the turn of the tide or on Sunday morning to Portishead for the night.

1st May Bank Holiday Mini Cruise to Lydney 4th to Monday 6th May 2024
Below is a rough outline that I can flush out with the Lydney Harbour Master and Lydney Yacht club if there is any interest.
There is sufficient water this weekend for boats drawing up to 2 meters to pass safely over the sands and I will produce a detailed plan closer to the time and a quick PowerPoint that may help those who feel a little nervous about going upstream of Portishead.
Saturday Distance approximately 34.5NM avoiding sands Lock out Cardiff on or before 11:00 (Low water at 10:40 2.5m)
Aim to be between M4 and M48 bridges by 15:25 >15:55 (2 to 2.5 hours before High Water) Sharpness Lock in Lydney between 17:35 and no later than HW 17:55 (HW Sharpness 17:55 6.7M) 19:00.
I can request for LYC bar to be open for the fleet and organise entertainment and possibly food if there is interest.
Sunday
Options: Lazy day in local area. Torus Crafts, Steam Train, Local Parks Possible Day sail to St P (Club between bridges) with LYC dinghy fleet and lunch in local pub. Depending on Numbers it may be possible to lock a Cruiser or two out for this trip if the majority of the fleet can fit in the inner lock /basin so they do not need to be lowered to let the trippers escape.
